AMERICAN CULTURE: VETERANS DAY

                                                 November 11: Veterans Day

Hi my friends ! This next Monday will be 11 th November, that day in America it's a holyday and they celebrate Veterans Day...:
During the last months of World War I, an "armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of the year 1918.
To celebratte that day, in November of the folowing year, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commeration of Armistice Day. Originally, it was celebrated as an observed day with parades, public meetings and a brief suspension of business begining at 11:00 A.M.
"Armistice Day" was approved as a legal holiday on May 13, 1938 with the 52 Stat. 351 Act of the 5 U.S. Code, Sec. 87a. November 11 was a day "dedicated to the cause of world peace" and it was intended to honor veterans of the World War I.
An ammendment to the Act of 1938, substituted the word "Armistice" by "Veterans" through Public Law 380 on June 1st, 1954, transforming this holiday into a day to honor American veterans of all wars.
