LEAGUE  BBVA (LA LIGA)

This weekend, spanish football teams have played one more time (one more match).

The best match was "The derbi". Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid played this match in the Santiago Bernabeu, the Real Madrid field. In 14 years, Atletico de Madrid haven't won any match in this field. But this was the last time. The saturday night Atletico de Madrid won 1-0 (Diego Costa) to Real Madrid.

FCBarcelona won its match too. Barça played against Almeria. Lionel Messi and Adriano were the scorers.

The bad new was the Messi's muscle injury.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Last week, our spanish football teams played The Champions League, the most important european football competition.

FCBarcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid won their matches, but Real Sociedad lost the match against Shaktar Donetsk.

The best football player in the world, Lionel Messi became the first player to score 4 hat tricks (three goals in the same match) in The Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo scored 1 hat trick too.

Sebastian Vettel dominated the Singapore Grand Prix, leading every lap of the race on his way to his seventh victory of the year.

On the 25^th lap , Daniel Ricciardo crashed and the Safety Car came into the race and it was in the race during some laps and it came out and the race continued.

Sebastian Vettel won the race , Fernando Alonso finished in the second place after he began in the seventh place and Kimi Räikkönen finished in the third place after he begans in the 13^th place.

Mark Webber had a problem with his car and his car stopped on the last lap and Alonso brought him in his car an he transportes him to the pit.

AMERICAN CULTURE: THANKSGIVING DAY

The thanksgiving is an American tradition and a national holiday.

The first celebration was celebrated in 1621 to conmemorate the succesful harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony. In that year governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving. The Colonists celebrated it as a traditional English harvest feast.

In one of these first feasts they invited the local Wampanaog Native Indians.

This invitation was because the Indians taught the Pilgrims how to catch eels and grow corn.

Later by the mid 1800's many states celebrated a Thanksgiving Day.

During the Civil War to unite the Nation president Abraham Lincoln discused the subject and in 1863 he declared the last Thusday of November Day of Thanksgiving.

In 1940's president Franklin Delano Roosvelt changed the Thanksgiving Day to the third Thursday of November where it remains.

Nowadays at this date all family come toguether to eat... turkey of course.

And in this Day Macy's a famous Departament store ( as Corte Ingles in Spain) make a parade in New York city with bigs animated balloons , famous stars and bands from around the country, simply... amazing !!

September again! A new school year begins with new books, new teachers and new subjects.

This year the teachers of the English Department have decided to create this blog for the Practical English Class of 1 Bachillerato. The aim of this blog is to take English out of the clasroom so that the students can see it not just  as  another subject, but as what it really is : a dynamic language that they can use to communicate with people from all over the world . They usually write something and just the teacher reads it; by means of this blog, we want to  encourage our students to use English to communicate with their classmates and students from other classes too; they can write about anything that interests them: music, sports, fashion, cinema, local news etc .

 The teachers have just launched this blog but it´s going to be the students´ task to give it form  and update it  with their writings, photos, etc. We are sure they will be able to create an original blog because our students are full of interesting ideas.
